Meet Mary Jo Grote, PhD, CCC-A

Mary Jo Grote began her professional journey with a BA in Education from Indiana University, but it was her growing interest in hearing and communication that led her to pursue an MA in Audiology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She later enhanced her skills by earning her PhD in Communication Disorders and Sciences from Wichita State University, where she had the unique opportunity to study under one of the early pioneers of amplification in audiology. Her dissertation investigated the use of objective measures during bimodal speech perception; what happens when you see and hear a speaker.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Grote has worked with two major hearing aid manufacturers as a trainer and corporate audiologist, sharing her knowledge with colleagues across the East Coast. For more than two decades, she owned and operated a private audiology practice in Manassas, Virginia, where she became known for delivering highly personalized and trusted care to patients of all ages. Her work was widely regarded as a gold standard in the region, blending technical expertise with deep compassion for each individual she served.

Now living in New Bern, Dr. Grote is excited to bring her experience and dedication to her new community, offering diagnostic and amplification services for all ages with a special place in her heart for infants and children. She also enjoys playing her cello, working in the garden, and spending time at the beach with her husband. She practices in our New Bern and Morehead City offices.
